Classical Guitar Strings | Cordes Express (16)

Q: What is the difference between normal and high tension on a classical guitar?

Tension describes how firm the strings are. Normal tension is softer and more comfortable. High tension gives more volume and projection but requires more finger strength. The tension is stated by the manufacturer on each set.

Q: Can I put steel strings on a classical guitar?

No. A classical guitar is designed for nylon strings: the higher tension of steel strings can damage the bridge, the neck or the soundboard. Only use strings made for classical guitars.

FAQ

Find answers to common questions

1 What is the difference between normal and high tension on a classical guitar?

2 Can I put steel strings on a classical guitar?

3 How do I fit nylon strings on a classical guitar?

Nylon strings are attached with a knot at the bridge and a few turns around the tuning post, which differs from the method used on a steel-string guitar. New strings stretch: expect to retune several times during the first days. See our guide "How to fit nylon strings on a classical guitar" (in French).
